Peter Field (SW) is the founding co-editor of The Timberline Review, a new, semi-annual lit journal based in Portland, Oregon. After the delightful experience of working with staff and fellow readers at The Louisville Review, in 2015 Peter marshaled the support of a local, non-profit writers organization and released the third collection of new short fiction, creative nonfiction, essays, and poetry. “Spalding-ers” represented in The Timberline Review include former dramatic writing student Jennie Kiffmeyer, fiction faculty member Jody Lisberger, and MFA alumna Rosanna Staffa (F ’13). Jeffrey Fischer-Smith’s (PW) short play, “A Dog Dreams,” was produced in June by Theatre InspiraTO, Canada’s largest ten-minute play festival, in Toronto; the Birdhouse Theatre’s Edge Fest in Milledgeville, Georgia; the 2016 National Queer Arts Festival and the United States of Asian America Festival in San Francisco; and the Sandbox Play Festival at the Tipping Point Theatre in Northville, Michigan. Spalding alum Brian Hampton (PW ‘06) performed in “A Dog Dreams” at the Puzzle Theatre Festival, which he produced, at Marble Collegiate Church in New York City. Continue reading “July 2016”

Annie Frazier Crandell (F) was part of a team of three writers and scholars who contributed questions to an interview with the editor of North Carolina Literary Review called ”North Carolina Connections: An Interview with NCLR editor Margaret Bauer.” The piece, appearing in NCLR Online 2016, celebrates and anticipates the journal’s upcoming 25th print edition, out this summer. Phil Cohen (F) has had a piece accepted for publication. Jewishfiction.net has accepted the first several chapters of his novel The Search for Shmulie Shimmer: A Nick Bones Mystery, for publication in its spring or fall edition. Continue reading “October 2015”

Annie Crandell (F) was awarded second place in the 2015 James Applewhite Poetry Prize for her poem “Waterfall.” The poem will appear in the 2016 issue of The North Carolina Literary Review, out next summer.

Jessica Evans (F) is pleased to announce that her chapbook, learn to find, will be released later this year. The collection of poetry examines the life of her late mother. Continue reading “August 2015”

Students

Barry Drudge (F) has written a number of songs that he is performing with the band Subterfuge. This year they’ve opened for a number of recording acts including: The Bullet Boys, Kip Winger, Royal Bliss, Eve to Adam, and Slaughter. In July and August, they will open for Puddle of Mudd and Like a Storm. They are currently in the studio laying tracks for an upcoming EP. He and his wife, Drema (F ‘13), read original works at Timbercrest Retirement Community on June 10. Continue reading “June 2015”
